Support for a Youth Room

We have to make a connection to Youth.
We have to stop labeling and stereotyping them.
We need to offer them houses – be it a house for art, athletics or study.
Youth are looking for them selves. They are on a journey – self discovery.
They encounter myths that try to define them.
They are essentially defined by the adults.
They are shaped by their community.
We need to offer them a space, to find themselves, to be educated, to gently lead them towards their great destiny.
If we give them the space, tools and leadership – they will transcend it.
We can only lead them towards it, feed them and clothe them.
They chisel out the path.
They choose.
They are people.
They do not yet have the years or experience that adults have and expect of them.
They are still young, naive, and innocent.
We can lead them by example and inclusion.
What is the key? We have to earn their trust.
From this trust, we can earn their respect.
If we respect each other – we understand each other.
This is not only an opportunity to fund a project but to create a relationship.
A Connection.
From this connection we can ignite a passion for volunteering, a sense of ownership, and a desire to set down roots in the community.
By sponsoring youth initiatives we learn and grow; we become humble and patient.
We will realize that we cannot pigeon hole one group, or age or race because we are each unique.
Fundamentally, we create the system for achievement and initiate the drive within each human, be it a toddler, teenager or adult,
to achieve their destiny for greatness.
Without this bridge between adults and youth, we are separate.
Together, we can do more, learn, grow and strive, on and on.
Embrace your youth.

spinning new threads…
These two woodblock prints are on sale at the Elora Centre for the Arts.
Part of the Harris Collective.
Wall flower…
These are the easiest way to spice up a wall. Made by UMBRA, I purchased these at Duncan McPhee downtown.
They come with little silver tacks that you press into the wall, and each flower has a magnet on the back,
so you can plop them wherever you want! They come in other colours…pink…hmmm…
Mr. Sock Elephant

There you have it! One cute little elephant with a ridiculously large trunk…made from two socks and some fabric.
Holiday Creations
The month of December began with a crackle…cookie that is!
Every year I love to make these delicious cookies for my favourite people.
The recipe is from one of the best baking cook books ever.

And then came the cupcakes…need I say more?
Creativity MIA

Submission for Peel Gallery Show March 2009
Where did my creativity fly off to? Maybe it was drowned by the um-teen cups of tea that I consume in a day? No. But really, I have been searching for it and damn-it, I know where it is not…it’s not in my studio, that’s for sure. I can’t even turn a full circle in the room without banging my knees on a metal dog cage (to be returned to owner), a rolled up red rug (torn to shreds by the tenant of the before-mentioned), Rubbermaid container upon cardboard box full of sketchbooks and “How To” books (those should be burned), oh and let’s not forget the plastic portfolios of gorgeous handmade papers…arghhhh…How can anyone create in what has become a genius hiding spot for ”things” when company comes over. Shit, my cover is up. What is most ironic is that if you are outside looking in the itsy bitsy window (shattered by the way, by what suspiscouly looks like something the size of a baseball), you can see that “creativity” does not live here. Oh no, it has flown the coop because it is petrified of what has now become a crime scene. I killed creativity…
